Work Experience
Merin Joseph started her career as an Assistant Police Commissioner (ASP) in rural Ernakulam where she worked to maintain law and order and to ensure public safety. During her career, she may have held various leadership positions in the police department, supervising teams of officers and efficiently managing day to day operations.
In June 2019, after taking charge as Kollam DCP, Merin Joseph IPS and her team successfully solved a 2-year-old Child Rape Case and arrested an accused from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. She came across the case while looking into pending cases of crimes against women.
UPSC Journey of IPS Merin Joseph
Merin Joseph IPS cleared the UPSC civil services examination in 2012 with All India Rank of 188 and she cleared the examination after her post-graduate studies. She had completed her IAS coaching training in New Delhi and was allotted the Indian Police Service (IPS) and got the home cadre of the service. After completing her IPS training in Hyderabad, she was posted to Ernakulam for her first posting.
At the age of 22, Merin became the youngest Indian Police Service officer from Kerala. She passed the exam at a very young age. On 6th March, 2013, she was interviewed and there she mentioned that she wasn’t satisfied with the interview, she passed it successfully and became an Indian Police Service officer.
