- First Attempt (2016), Anu Kumari failed in the first stage of UPSC Civil Services Exam (Preliminary Exam) when she attempted the first time. But that was a close miss – she missed the cut-off score by merely one mark.

Anu Kumari Education
Anu Kumari studied B.Sc (Hons) Physics (University of Delhi) and pursued MBA in Finance and Marketing from IMT. She worked at a private organisation for eight to nine years. She enrolled herself at a training institute in Delhi, while preparing for the UPSC IAS exam, the first time. She stayed up with her parents for a while, so that she could concentrate in a better way, on her preparation for the UPSC IAS exam. Her UPSC main exam optional subject for IAS was Sociology.
While working with a private company, Anu Kumari decided to pursue her IAS dream since a private job was getting to her and Anu kumari decided to change her destiny in 2016.
Although she did not succeed, she missed the IAS prelims cutoff by just one mark, first attempt.
After MBA in finance and marketing Anu Kumari joined ICICI Prudential mutual fund in Bombay for 3 years then she changed her job as she joined Aviva life insurance in Gurgaon. Anu Kumari IAS is a working independent woman and woman who is passionate about children and family.
Anu Kumari- UPSC Journey
After completing graduation, Anu Kumari had a well-paying job but decided to study for the Civil Services IAS exam in order to be considered for a good position. Anu Kumari was the only member of her family who had a regular source of income,and then she had decided to become an IAS officer. But she didn’t have the time to devote to her studies at her in-laws’ place. She thinks her son’s childhood sacrifice is one of the biggest as well as greatest in her entire UPSC journey. This is the only reason she gives credit for this huge success to his son.
Anu Kumari- UPSC Exam Preparation Strategy
Anu Kumari did not have a plan when she started out. Rather she was full of insecurities, doubts and fears.Then, she picked bits and pieces from different toppers strategies. After going through every topper’s strategies, Anu Kumari tried to do what she felt were genuine and honest suggestions by them and continued her preparation with confidence.
She had knowledge of Economics as she has completed her MBA in Finance and Marketing, so she was comfortable with Economics without reading the comprehensive 11th and 12th NCERTs or Ramesh Singh. She only did Sri Ram printed Economics notes . So, Anu kumari Planned her strategy accordingly.
During Prelims 2017, her sources were very extensive (they were based on a multitude of sources of information available online). After, Pre-exam and before the mains exam, she narrowed them all down to a few resources and this narrowing down was definitely not systematic or methodical. It also depended on the guidance she received by the test series she attended, there was no certainty that covering .
So, she requests everyone to be cautious and pick what they feel comfortable with and start their preparation accordingly.
Anu Kumari – Marks Secured in UPSC CSE
Anu Kumari has scored the highest amongst the women candidates in 2017 as well as she topped the UPSC CSE Exam . In the written exam she scored 937 marks and in the personality test, she scored 187. In total, her score was 1124 in UPSC. Ultimately Anu Kumari has achieved the 2nd rank in the UPSC Civil Service Examination.

Anu Kumari IAS topper, Opted Sociology as her optional subject. Anu Kumari completed her graduation in B.Sc. (honours) in Physics, at the Hindu College, from University of delhi. After that, she applied for an MBA in Finance and Marketing from IMT nagpur. She completed her MBA in finance in IMT Nagpur, in 2008. She didn’t opt for any coaching centre for UPSC Exams. Anu just joined a test series for Sociology which guides her thoroughly and which improves her preparation to do well in mains.
